By 2030, 1.2 billion women worldwide will experience menopause. Women spend nearly one-third of their lives post-menopause, facing heightened risks of metabolic ailments and other health challenges, yet this life stage has historically been underfunded and underserved in research.
The need for research, innovation, and support is urgent. This challenge aims to accelerate new solutions – scientific, technological, and entrepreneurial – that address this critical gap.

It’s a global innovation challenge designed to accelerate solutions that improve women’s health, led in partnership by Tufts Food & Nutrition Innovation Institute and Nestlé Health Science.

You’ll be asked for a short description of your innovation, the problem it addresses, your target audience, and your development stage.
No, applying to the challenge is free.
The pitch deck should address unmet need, your solution and differentiation, competitive advantage, scientific basis, key data, business case, IP overview, team expertise, and a roadmap for growth.
Applications must be submitted between October 18, 2025 and February 6, 2026.
No, each applicant may only submit one entry.
The Innovate Forward Committee, made up of experts in science, medicine, and commercialization from the Tufts and Nestlé Health Science teams.
Applications are judged on: Innovation, Impact, Fit with focus areas, Intellectual property, Business model, Team qualifications, and Quality of presentation.
Finalists will be selected between February and March 2026 and will pitch virtually. Award recipients will be announced early 2026.
No, applicants retain IP ownership, but Award Recipients grant Nestlé a short option period of 3 months to negotiate for further development or commercialization.

Keto Kare is a nutritional drink specifically formulated to support individuals managing their carbohydrate intake on a ketogenic diet, providing essential nutrients while aligning with the principles of ketosis. The development of Keto Kare was driven by the objective of offering a science-backed, plant-based nutritional shake that can be utilized by individuals who have specific nutritional goals and follow a ketogenic diet.

Superfrau: A Functional and Sustainable Beverage
Superfrau is a sparkling functional beverage that utilizes upcycled whey to create a drink offering protein, B-Vitamins and electrolytes. The upcycled whey used in Superfrau is sourced from yogurt production, which would typically be discarded or used as feedstock.
Melissa Martinelli, the visionary founder of Superfrau, expressed her excitement upon winning the challenge. She emphasized, “This achievement represents a remarkable milestone for Superfrau. With the invaluable guidance and expertise of Nestlé Health Science and Tufts University, we are eager to broaden our impact and offer consumers a delightful and nourishing beverage that empowers them to make health-conscious food choices while also helping reduce waste.”
By unlocking the potential of dietary RNAs—bioactive compounds naturally found in fresh foods that play a crucial role in cellular health—Kresko RNAtech has demonstrated their exceptional ability to discover and leverage dietary RNAs for use as functional ingredients across a diverse array of products. Their innovative technology enables the discovery and stabilization of RNA compounds that can be incorporated into food and supplements, effectively addressing various health needs and supporting consumer demands.
